Love: A continuing series — Love thinks no evil.

“Love thinks no evil” There are 4 common interpretations of this phrase.

1. Love does not meditate on evil.

i.e. Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things”

2. Love does not wish evil.

i.e. “You’ll see” “I told you so” “He’ll learn his lesson”

Proverbs 17:5; 24:17; Job 31:24-30; Romans 12:17-21

3. Love does not attribute evil. Love gives the benefit of the doubt.

Matthew 7:1 “Judge not, that you be not judged”

John 7:24 “Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.”

2 Samuel 6:12-22

4. Love does not keep a record of evil.

Romans 4:3-8

Love: A continuing series — Love is not provoked

1 Corinthians 13:4-7

“[4] Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; [5] does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; [6] does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; [7] bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
