Living in the Spirit

Galatians 5:22-25

Hebrews 8:7-10 – the reason the old (first) covenant was not found faultless wasn’t because the Law was to blame, but because the people did not keep it. And the didn’t just not keep it – they were unable to keep it!

2 Corinthians 3:1-11

Romans 8:1, 7-9 – you can come boldly before God, not base upon your works, but having been saved BY GRACE through faith.

John 3:3-6

John 15:1-6 – Jesus Christ is the source of all nourishment in the Christian life.

The value of one life

Psalm 149:

1 Praise the LORD!

Sing to the LORD a new song,

And His praise in the assembly of saints.

2 Let Israel rejoice in their Maker;

Let the children of Zion be joyful in their King.

3 Let them praise His name with the dance;

Let them sing praises to Him with the timbrel and harp.

4 For the LORD takes pleasure in His people;

He will beautify the humble with salvation.

5 Let the saints be joyful in glory;

Let them sing aloud on their beds.

6 Let the high praises of God be in their mouth,

And a two-edged sword in their hand,

7 To execute vengeance on the nations,

And punishments on the peoples;

8 To bind their kings with chains,

And their nobles with fetters of iron;

9 To execute on them the written judgment—

This honor have all His saints.

Praise the LORD!

Stewardship and Virtue: Part II

Matthew 6:19-24

Already spoke on Faith:

• God is our Creator

• God is our Provider

• We are Debtors

Today, Hope & Love:

Meaning of Hope:

• Sometimes it means Faith

• Usually, it is a confident expectation

• There is a distinction between Faith and Hope

– If you have faith, then you WILL have hope

– Faith looks at the past and present

– Hope looks toward the future

Romans 8:18-25

Focus of Hope:

• Christ’s Return

Titus 2:11-13

• Future Resurrection

1 Thessalonians 4:13-16

• Heaven or Eternity

1 Peter 1:3-5; Colossians 1:3-5; 1 John 2:28-3:3

Meaning of Love:

• Not mere emotion of passion

Deuteronomy 6:4-6

• Reverence and Obedience

Three Questions:

• Faith: on what are you STANDING?

• Hope: on what are you LOOKING?

• Love: on what are you CLINGING?

Stewardship and Virtue

Stewardship and Virtue:

* Theological Virtues

* Real Issue is the Heart

* Return to Foundations

The Foundation of our Faith

I. God is the Creator (Gen. 1:1)

A. He is the owner (Malachi 3:8-10)

B. He is the Lord (Ps. 2:1-3)

II. God is the Provider

A. God provided all Adam needed (Gen. 2)

B. God now provides all we need (Matt. 6:25-34)

III. Man is a Debtor

A. As a steward we must all according to God’s will (Gen 2:15)

Conclusion:

What are the Fruits of our Faith?

One thing we will see is PEACE instead of ANXIETY!

Matthew 6:19: So where is your heart?!
